Nursing Environment
"I believe that I can recognize a top-notch facility when I see one, and that's what I found here. When touring CVPH Medical Center during my interview I found the people to be friendly and everything just felt right. People are doing a very good job; there's a strong sense of commitment and yet, at the same time, staff members enjoy what they are doing. Ours is serious work, but we can also have fun when appropriate. We like to say that CVPH is a great place to receive care and to work. In my mind the two go hand in hand.
Personally, I love what I do and am passionate about my work. I have a true conviction and feeling of responsibility to keep patients at CVPH safe and to do all within my influence to provide the highest quality of care. Fortunately, I work with a great team that has a deep sense of doing what is best for patients and the community. They make it relatively easy for me; most often I focus on getting the resources they need, removing barriers and advocating for patients and staff.
If you are pursuing a career in health care, CVPH has much to offer through its Patient Care Services Division. We have a busy emergency department with more than 50,000 visits annually. Surgeries run the gamut from outpatient procedures to open hearts. Inpatient specialty units address the needs of medical/surgical, intensive care, oncology, cardiology, nephrology, orthopedic, neurosurgery, telemetry, OB/GYN and adult and child and adolescent mental health patients. We will find a place where you feel comfortable and that you are making a true contribution. There are few other careers that offer so much potential to contribute to the betterment of others. I sincerely hope that you consider joining us at CVPH and making us an even better medical center."
- Cindie Gardner, Vice President, Patient Services
CVPH is a collegial, supportive place for nurses to work that fosters professional satisfaction by:
- focusing on the "high-touch" patient-care aspects of nursing
- providing nurses with opportunities for professional growth and development
- promoting a mentoring, coaching environment
- providing an excellent compensation and benefits package
Orientation Program: For nurses new to the organization we provide individualized orientation to help you transition smoothly into our organization and be successful. This means that the orientation process for a new GN can be very different from that of a Registered Nurse with considerable hospital experience. Again, we tailor the orientation to meet individual needs.
Presently at CVPH we employ approximately 430 nurses, 90 LPN's and 180 NA's. There are five nursing schools in the area, both two and four-year programs; many of their students do their clinicals at CVPH.

In 2001, a contract was negotiated between the New York State Nursing Association (NYSNA) and CVPH that ensures competitive wages and benefits while addressing many of the staffing and scheduling issues that are so important in today's environment. The Medical Center and NYSNA share many common goals about providing care and maintaining sound employee/employer relations.
