Nominations are currently being sought for the 2008 Elizabeth Heins Inspirational Survivorship Award. The award, created in 2005 in honor of the late Elizabeth Heins, will be presented at the 10th Annual Treasure Chests Soiree, the Rainbow of Ribbons Soiree, planned for Friday, May 30 The Treasure Chests is a breast cancer support group sponsored by the FitzPatrick Cancer Center.

While living with many medical issues including breast cancer, Heins, of Plattsburgh, served as an inspiration to many. Her zest for life, warm smile and adventurous spirit was contagious. Her involvement with survivorship activities like reach for recovery and the treasure chests and other community activities was legendary. This award was created to honor other women with breast cancer who have similar qualities. Past recipients include Gracelyn Murphy, Cindy Topnick and Marie Beemer.

To nominate someone you know ,consider the following questions: How has she been an inspiration to others? What personality traits does she have that can help others through life's challenges? What activities is she (or has she been) involved with that impact the lives of survivors. And, How has being a cancer survivor influenced her life?

Nominations for the 2008 recipient will be accepted through Monday, March 31. Previous nominees can be resubmitted.
