Programs/Funds

Many Ways To Support The Foundation

Gifts made to the Foundation fund a variety of special programs within the Hospital and throughout the North Country community. Gifts can be given as general support for the Foundation (unrestricted) or may be donated for use by a specific department or program (restricted). Either way, you know that your contribution is being invested in important health and wellness initiatives. The following is a list of our programs:

Unrestricted Giving

Unrestricted gifts allow us to fund a variety of projects throughout the year. Whether a donation is made in memory of someone, in honor of someone, because you or a loved one received great care at the Medical Center -or- because you believe in our mission, your gift helps fund the following:

  • The Community Health Lecture Series - A series of community health lectures free and open to the public, check the Calendar of Upcoming Events for our next lecture.
  • Diabetes Program – The Foundation provides funding to the diabetes support group and to bring in accomplished speakers.
  • EXPLORE Program – a series of day-long educational sessions for healthcare professionals
  • Girls Night Out - An annual event held in October to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It is an evening of laughter and stress relief, which features a nationally renowned keynote speaker.
  • Patient Care Oriented Mini-Grants – In partnership with the Hospital Auxiliary, over $40,000 in mini-grants are distributed annually to CVPH departments to enhance patient care.
  • Senior Enrichment Day - A day for senior citizens filled with informative and motivational programs.

Restricted Giving

Restricted gifts are used by a specific department or program.

  • Alice T. Miner Center for Women & Children - Support important education programs for patient and staff.
  • Ambulatory Surgery Center - Supports patient and staff educational programs.
  • Cardiology Department - Support important patient and staff educational programs.
  • Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit - This fund is dedicated to making a child's stay in the unit more comfortable by purchasing items that are safe, educational and entertaining.
  • Critical Care Unit Fund - Supports important patient and staff educational programs for the unit.
  • Emergency Care Center - Provides funds to the ECC for important patient and staff information and programs.
  • Employee Education Fund - Allows staff to continue their education by attending conferences and seminars to further their knowledge and skills for patient care.
  • FitzPatrick Cancer Center - Funds important patient and staff education programs, small equipment and incidentals that improve patient care.
  • H. K. Freedman Renal Center (KDU) - Funds important patient and staff education programs, small equipment and incidentals that improve patient care.
  • Lab Educational Fund - Provides the Lab with the necessary funds to send employees to various educational programs.
  • Medical Library - Supports the purchase of educational materials for the medical library.
  • Mental Health Unit - Funds important patient and staff education programs, small equipment and incidentals that improve patient care.
  • Peri-operative Services (OR) - Supports important patient and staff educational programs.
  • Pediatrics Unit - Supports important patient and staff educational programs as well as special equipment and incidentals that can enhance a child's stay at the hospital.
  • Pharmacy - Supports important patient and staff educational programs.
  • R3 Nursing Floor - Funds important patient and staff education programs, small equipment and incidentals that improve patient care.
  • R4 Nursing Floor - Funds important patient and staff education programs, small equipment and incidentals that improve patient care.
  • R5 Nursing Floor - Funds important patient and staff education programs, small equipment and incidentals that improve patient care.
  • R6 Nursing Floor - Funds important patient and staff education programs, small equipment and incidentals that improve patient care.
  • R7 Nursing Floor - Funds important patient and staff education programs, small equipment and incidentals that improve patient care.
  • Radiology Department - Supports important patient and staff educational programs.
  • Radiology School - Supports the purchase of new learning tools and provides scholarships to students at the Radiology School at CVPH Medical Center.
  • Skilled Nursing Facility - S Funds important patient and staff education programs, small equipment and incidentals that improve patient care.
  • Women's Imaging Center - Funds important patient and staff education programs, small equipment and incidentals that improve patient care.

Programs & Events

  • David P. Reuter Free Helmet Fund - Each year bicycle helmets are purchased and distributed to children in the North Country free of charge.
  • Diabetes Education - This fund is used to support community presentations on diabetes.
  • Eat Dessert First: A Celebration of Life - The FitzPatrick Cancer Center's annual celebration of cancer survivorship. 
  • Rabin Fund – For those who may not be able to afford it, the Rabin Fund provides incidentals to patients at CVPH to make their stay more comfortable.
  • Safe Kids Adirondack - A coalition of community members, which work as a team to prevent unintentional childhood injuries. Annually the group holds the Fun On Wheels Bike Rodeo that teaches children how to ride a bicycle safely. Kids are required to complete a training course and then receive a free helmet.
  • Treasure Chests - Breast Cancer Survivor Group - A dynamic group of breast cancer survivors which hosts guest speakers and also uses the funds to purchase educational items for newly diagnosed patients.

Scholarships

Here are just some of the scholarship funds we hold.

  • Kevin J. Carroll Scholarship – Provides educational assistance to CVPH employees seeking first level certification or licensure in a healthcare related field.
  • CVPH Nursing Scholarship – Established in order to support CVPH nurses going back to school to further their education.
  • Pearl Hayes Douglas Scholarship - The Pearl Hayes Douglas Scholarship provides a $500 scholarship to a CVPH Patient Services staff member who is working towards the next step in their professional training.
  • Stephanie Wheet Fund - Is a scholarship in memory of Stephanie Wheet for a deserving CVPH radiology school student.

Travel Funds

If you would like to apply for assistance from any of these travel funds, please visit the Named Funds section of the website. Applications can be printed and more information is available.

  • April LaValley Fund - Assists families who have children with cystic fibrosis that need to receive care out of the area. The fund reimburses food and lodging expenses.
  • Chelsea's Rainbow Fund - Assists families who have children with cancer and need to receive care out of the area. The fund reimburses food and lodging expenses.
  • CVPH Travel Fund – Assists adults who need to receive specialized medical care out of the area. The fund reimburses travel expenses.
  • Families Helping Families Fund - Assists families from the North Country who find themselves in an emergency situation and need to unexpectedly travel out of the area. This fund provides an envelope containing necessities and emergency funds for families and will be distributed by social workers and emergency department personnel at CVPH Medical Center.
  • Melissa Lahtinen Penfield Fund - Will provide assistance to organ donors and families who need to travel out of the area to make the donation. It will also support community education to promote organ donor awareness.
  • Roger Senecal Fund - Assists income eligible families who have ill children and need to receive care out of the area. The fund reimburses food and lodging expenses.
