Flight to the Heart

The Generosity Continues - Submitted by Sydney Dixon Foundation Intern

We received a phone call recently from a donor who had two round trip tickets to Boston and wasn’t able to use them.  The donor wanted to pass along the tickets to a travel fund recipient who would be traveling for specialized health care in the next couple of months.

The Foundation Team thought of names, and a few travelers came to mind that would benefit greatly from the round trip flight. We called our first travel recipient-whose upcoming appointment did not line up with the offer. However, she kindly stated, “Please, I want them to go to someone else so they can benefit from these tickets!”

We called our second travel fund recipient, and her explanation was similar. The appointment and flights did not match up to the best degree, but her message; the same as our first travel fund recipient was loud and clear-“I know how much these can help. Please give them to someone else who can benefit from them!”

The next call was a match and our travel fund recipient is a three year old child, Michael, being helped through our Roger Senecal Fund.  He and his parents will now be able to travel to his follow up appointment faster with no added stress of parking or traffic.  Michael requires frequent monitoring by specialists as his stomach is not able to break down food.  His body takes days to digest a meal rather than hours which causes pain and discomfort.  Through close monitoring from his supportive physicians in Boston, his parents have been able to maintain Michael’s healthy weight and minimize his pain.

It is a pleasure and an honor to connect our caring donors to help very deserving members of our area.  We live in a wonderful and generous community!
