Sexual Assault Examiner Program

Eleven nurses, specially trained and certified, provide forensic exams and 24-hour-a-day support. A secure, private, comfortable room is reserved near the Emergency Care Center solely for people who have been sexually assaulted. There they can feel safe, receive care, preserve evidence (if desired), shower, change and begin recovery.

Our nurses serve multiple purposes based on the needs and desires of the assault victim. Appropriate medical care, support and comfort are provided. Counselors through the local Crisis Center can be requested. The nurses have also been trained in evidence collection. The incident will remain confidential or law enforcement officials will be notified based upon the wishes of the victim. If the victim is uncertain about prosecuting, evidence can be stored for up to 30 days.
