The Community Medication Collection Bin
Located within the Outpatient Pharmacy, the Community Medication Collection Bin provides a safe, secure and environmentally friendly way to dispose of your unused or outdated medications.
The CVPH Outpatient Pharmacy is conveniently located adjacent to the Emergency Department (ER) and is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Parking spots reserved for Outpatient Pharmacy customers are available in the ER lot.
The Outpatient Pharmacy is one of three Clinton County locations to safely dispose of unused medications. The Clinton County Sheriff's Department and Plattsburgh City Police also offer collection boxes for prescription medications. Periodically, retail pharmacies will also conduct special drop off events.
This service is part of our commitment to addressing the opioid crisis in our community. Studies show that many abusers of prescriptions drugs often get them from unused supplies left at their home or a friend or relatives home. Having another convenient collection box to help remove unused controlled medications from our community helps reduce the risk of drug diversion.
The collection bin also offers another environmentally safe method for the disposal of medications that should not be placed in the landfill or flushed.
With start-up funding provided by The Foundation of CVPH, the CVPH Community Medication Collection Bin is maintained by the Outpatient Pharmacy. The receptacle uses MedSafe containers which are specially designed to prevent access to the medications after they have been deposited. The 38 gallon receptacle holds a specially designed liner which when full, will be removed from the bin and securely transported to a facility for destruction.
Flavoring Liquid Medication for Young Children
For children, the smell and taste of prescriptions can be major factors in their acceptance and willingness to comply with the prescribed therapy.
Our Pharmacists are able to use FLAVORx to change the flavor of liquid medication for infants and young children making it more likely and easier for them to take their prescription.
Children can choose from a variety of flavors such as, bubblegum, watermelon, raspberry and many more. FLAVORx flavors are sugar-free, dye-free, gluten-free and casein-free.
All parents have to do is request the flavoring when they pick up the prescription.
