Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehab Renovation
New center will help those with heart, lung disease live fuller lives.
Fundraising efforts are underway to create a new Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center at CVPH. When complete, the much needed space will greatly improve the health and quality of life of community members, thanks to guidance from a team of highly qualified and compassionate professionals.
Located on the CVPH Main Campus, the new center will allow for:
· Double the square footage of the current space for expanded programming.
· Increased capacity for cardiac rehab classes from 36 to 84 patients enrolled at a time.
· New pulmonary rehab program.
· Dedicated stretching area.
· Formal check-in process.
· Implement post rehab program for patients to continue their exercise regimen with the same fellowship and professional support.
A $1.2 million renovation is needed for this expansion project. When complete, more of our North Country friends and neighbors will have the opportunity to begin a new chapter thanks to newly gained strength and lifesaving education. With your support, this new center can truly make a difference in the lives of people we know and love.
The Need is Real & Growing
Heart and lung disease rank high on the list of community health concerns in our region. People living in rural areas are 40% more likely to develop heart disease according to the American Heart Association and the National Institutes of Health reports that of the 16 million people diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, 25% live in rural communities.
People living with these conditions often face frequent Emergency Department visits, hospital admissions and a gradual decrease in the quality of life.
Lack of space has created a long wait list to access services and is delaying essential care. Together, we can fix this.
Cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation are evidence-based programs that are proven to show improvement in daily living, provide better health outcomes and extend life expectancy. This project will allow more people to participate in these critical, life changing programs and give them many more years with their family and friends.
Cardiac Rehabilitation Gives Heart Disease Patients a 2nd Chance
Today, the number of people choosing to participate in Cardiac Rehabilitation is higher than ever before with over 70 people waiting for services. For some, they lose the sense of urgency to participate and will never complete this important program or get back to what was their normal life. This new space will allow us to enroll more than double the patients we can currently, ensuring those who need this care have access to it when they need it.
Pulmonary Rehabilitation Can Be a Breath of Fresh Air to Those with Chronic Lung Disease
People with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary fibrosis and other chronic lung diseases can benefit from the supervised exercise, education and support offered by a Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program. Our goal is to mimic the success of our Cardiac Rehab program, relying on the same patient centered focus and our collaborative approach to quality care. There are no other programs within our region that provide this service.
In Good Hands
Under the supervision of certified exercise physiologists and registered nurses, the individualized programs include stretching, aerobic exercise, weight training and stress management education. Practiced in a group setting, the program helps people be more active, breathe easier and get their life back. Patients also benefit greatly from nutritional education provided by a registered dietician as part of a full spectrum of services offered by the University of Vermont Health Network.
