Gina Carbino, BSN, RN Joins Elite Group of Emergency Nurses
CVPH nurse is one of 20 word wide to earn 5 certifications

PLATTSBURGH, NY (07/25/2019) –  Gina Carbino, BSN, RN of The University of Vermont Health Network – Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH) Emergency Department (ED) is one of only 20 RNs worldwide to have earned all five of the certifications offered by the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN). The 13-year nursing veteran is also only 1 of 4 women in the world to attain that status.

Carbino, who currently serves as the CVPH ED’s clinical education manager, is certified in Emergency Nursing (CEN) and Trauma (TCRN). She also has attained certifications as a Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN), Pediatric Emergency Nurse (CPEN) and Transport Nurse (CTRN) from BCEN. She is a certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) and is charged with facilitating education and competencies for the entire ED nursing team.

CVPH Chief Nursing Officer Carrie Howard Canning congratulated Carbino and said, “She has taken her commitment to providing the very best care to our patients to another level. She’s modeling the way for others to be lifelong learners, set professional goals and grow professionally. Both our patients and our people benefit when nurses like Gina dedicate themselves to obtaining specialty nursing certification. We are extremely proud of her and her accomplishment.”

The Ellenburg Center resident has a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Plattsburgh State University College and has worked in health care for 18 years. “They say that if you love what you do, you never work a day in your life. I am passionate about what I do and hope to inspire a passion for nursing in others. Certifications are a way I can demonstrate that passion and knowledge.”

Board certification, according to BCEN is the nursing profession’s highest professional credential, and board certified emergency nurses are elite practitioners in their specialty.  It is a rigorous process that validates a nurse possesses advanced knowledge, expertise and clinical judgment in their specialty. Nurses who earn and maintain board certification demonstrate the highest level of professionalism, a dedication to lifelong learning, and a commitment to excellence in patient care, according to BCEN.
