Employee of CVPH Skilled Nursing Facility Tests Positive for COVID-19 - Steps taken to assure continued health and safety of residents and staff
An employee at UVM Health Network – Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH) Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday. The employee is quarantining at home according to New York State Health Department guidelines.
“After becoming aware of the positive test, we immediately began taking steps to protect our residents and the team who cares for them. Residents and their families were notified in addition to the entire SNF staff,” explained CVPH SNF Administrator Susan Biondolillo. “We are working with our residents and speaking with their primary contact persons to perform additional COVID-19 testing on residents.” Staff members have been tested regularly for COVID-19 since mid-May when New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo issued an executive order.
Staff continue to use personal protective equipment and are now wearing a surgical gown and goggles or face shield in addition to gloves and masks. “We are working with both the state and county health departments to assure the health and safety of our residents and the team,” Biondolillo said.
“This team has done a tremendous job throughout this COVID-19 pandemic caring for our residents with expertise and compassion,” said CVPH President Michelle LeBeau. “I am sure their dedication to their residents and each other will help them respond to this difficult situation.”
The CVPH Skilled Nursing Facility is home to 33 residents.
Because New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo’s recent mandate on nursing home visitation requires an absence of new COVID-19 cases for at least 28 days, plans to resume even limited visitation here are on hold.
