Wellness After Cancer Focus of 8-Week Series
The FitzPatrick Cancer Center (FCC) presents, “Moving Toward Wellness: Finding Your Best Path for Life After Cancer,” an eight-week program that offers information, resources and support to those who are focused on wellness after being treated for cancer. The program begins Thursday, September 28. The weekly classes will be held at CVPH from 5 to 7 p.m.
“While certainly a cause for celebration, completing cancer treatment can lead to a number of other physical, emotional and spiritual concerns. This program will provide information and tools that may useful as cancer survivors begin this next chapter in their lives,” explained Alex Fleming, MSW, FCC social worker.
Stacey LaFave, MSW, oncology social worker with 28 years of experience is the series facilitator. Guest presenter is FCC Oncology Dietitian Charlotte Gosrich, RD, JD, MBSR, who is also a certified mindfulness-based stress reduction instructor.
Creating or enhancing healthy habits, dealing with long-term and short-term side effects of treatment, and coping techniques to deal with the emotional distress of cancer will be explored. Other topics of discussion will include exercise, nutrition, stress management, fatigue, chemo brain, anxiety around scans and fear of recurrence.
