Family Medicine Residency

Our family residency trains family physicians, to excel in patient-centered care for our community.

The University of Vermont Health Network has successfully launched its Family Medicine Residency Program, a community-based program at the UVM Health Network - Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, NY. This program is ACGME accredited since July 1, 2015.

Our Family Medicine Residency trains family physicians in a non-competitive setting to excel in the leadership of high-quality and high value, patient-centered care for people of all ages in their communities. Residents will benefit from a dedicated faculty and the opportunity to mentor medical students from the University of Vermont at a thriving community hospital.

Family Medicine Residency Mission Statement

Uniting our heads, hands and hearts, we strive to train resident physicians in a setting of scholarship, academic excellence and attention to inclusive high-quality patient and family care to become physicians who can enhance the lives of the people of Northern New York and beyond.

Program Aims

  1. Provide a well-rounded curriculum that provides residents with the skills necessary to practice in any setting, especially in rural or underserved areas.
  2. To foster a sense of scholarship and inquiry in residents and faculty that has long reaching effects in to their careers and contributes to life-long learning.
  3. To nourish a sense of service and community amongst residents and faculty, acknowledging our privileged roles as physicians and community leaders.
  4. To heal, treat, teach and serve with our hearts, placing values of respect, dignity and compassion at the forefront of our daily encounters and interactions.
