Good food and a wealth of practical information and advice about nutrition are what the CVPH Nutrition Services Department produces on a daily basis. Their efforts are much appreciated by many hundreds of people daily.

Food Preparation

The Department prepares more than 1,000 meals a day for patients, employees and visitors to the Medical Center. They do a good job according to patients, who rate them in the top 10 percent for satisfaction when compared with hospitals of comparable size across the United States.

CVPH was a pioneer in implementing the Select Serve system. It enables patients to make meal choices at the time of service similar to eating in a restaurant. This has proven to be much more popular than the traditional hospital system which requires patients to make menu selections a day or more in advance. Select Serve offers patients a wide variety of choices. If nothing looks good on the menu but the patient has a specific craving, every effort will be made to be accommodating provided the choice falls within the individual's dietary restrictions.

In 2002, a new World Class Patient Services program was introduced. This new menu with many comfort foods and enhanced presentation of meals has been extremely well received. Best of all, patients begin eating sooner and thus recover their strength more quickly.

Nutritional Wellness and Education

Proper nutrition and nutritional habits play a significant part in health and wellness. Our clinical dietitians are the experts. They function as part of the overall health care team. Dietitians counsel with patients one on one and provide practical advice and information to be applied in their daily activities. If you have questions about nutrition, call us at 562-7550. We're here to help.
